MAGNESIUM WORTHWHILE?

I have tried many supplements over the years and, to be totally honest, I found most of them to be useless and a waste of money.  Plus, I believe diet is far more important – and has a much bigger impact on our health - than supplements.

In the interest of full disclosure, I take a few supplements, such as an Omega-3, Vitamin D, Probiotics (due to my antibiotic usage), and Magnesium.  It is this last supplement – Magnesium – which I think is worth mentioning.  The mineral Magnesium helps to regulate over 300 biochemical reactions in the body.  It has been referred to as a miracle mineral and the ultimate relaxation mineral with advocates touting its effectiveness in preventing calcification of arteries, high blood pressure, muscle cramps and spasms, depression, hormone problems, sleep and energy problems.

Personally, I have found that taking 400 mg a day (the maximum recommended dose for an adult) has been helpful in preventing severe, but intermittent temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, which is now (thankfully) under much better control.  You can buy it as a tasty powder in a drink from Natural Vitality, or in a liquid capsule form.  Given the great amount of stress our bodies are under, my thought is it’s worth a try.
